Community Gardens
BCCD manages and oversees
garden plots on the state owned land on North Main St.
on Lake Opechee. Plots are available
to residents of Belknap County to plant and cultivate
vegetables for their own use.
In addition, there is a
large compost on site for use, and a solar operated
water pump for irrigation purposes.
If you are interested in
obtaining a plot, please contact Lisa Morin, for more
information.

Water access to the community garden
plots!
That was the excitement over at the
Opechee tract for our local
Gardeners. In 2007 the Belknap County Conservation
District received a Conservation Innovation Grant from
the Department of Natural Resources to install a solar
water pump including a water system so that our
gardeners would be able to water their gardens
throughout the season. Solar panels were put into place
down by Lake Opechee by the company Solar Stream.
Solar power then operates the pump which
fills our tank at the top of the hill located at our
garden site. We were also able to construct a shed to
store this water tank. With a couple of years under our
belt, our staff and wonderful gardeners have teamed up
to work out the kinks and bumps in this eco friendly
operation that we can all be proud of.
