Improving Stream Habitat Naturally

Trees naturally fall into streams, and these logs and branches are cornerstones to excellent fish habitat, especially in small streams - and especially for wild brook trout.

Many partners worked together to create this video about the importance of wood in streams and how we are restoring this fundamental part of our healthy streams. In Belknap County, we've improved Black Brook (Sanbornton), Hurd Brook (Alton), Poorfarm and Gunstock Brooks (Gilford) and are beginning projects in Meredith.

Belknap County Conservation District helps landowners, organizations, and communities conserve and maintain the County’s natural resources.
